Should trophy hunting be considered animal cruelty?

In my opinion hunting for other than food is completely wrong. I saw a picture the other day of a guy who had killed a wolf. I just wanted to beat the living h*ll out of him. I don鈥檛 understand how people can be so cruel.Should trophy hunting be considered animal cruelty?
I don't blame you; however, the act you describe is not ';cruel'; so much as stupid and environmentally hostile.

The taking of a trophy is not necessarily cruel or even stupid, though. Here is a case in point: A game farm in South Africa; a herd of kudu, Africa's second largest antelope (eland is the largest); at the age of about 10-11 years the bulls are driven out of the herd by younger males. Left to fend for themselves, without the protection and company of the herd, they become unhealthy and weak and are soon taken by lions or hyenas. Rather than allowing this to happen, a mature bull may designated by the farm managers as ';available for hunting.'; A foreign tourist pays $3000 for a license to hunt the animal, plus he and his party stay at a lodge, pay for guides, etc. The head goes to a taxidermist -- another $800-1000 for the country's economy, the carcass goes to local people who harvest the meat and utilize every part of the animal but the hooves. The farm and its employees benefit, the local people benefit, the government collects fees that support rangers and national parks.

Bottom line: properly managed and controlled, the practice of trophy hunting is not inherently evil. Killing a wolf that is not taking livestock, on the other hand, is an execrable practice.Should trophy hunting be considered animal cruelty?
Ugh...thats disgusting. And wolves are endangered too! what a pig

Hunting for survival or food is one thing, but there is no bigger display of arrogance, ego, and pride than taking an animals life solely to have a';trophy'; you can brag about to your beer guzzling friends.

Or because they simply think animals are a';nuisance'; that don't belong here.

Trophy hunting should be outlawed and treated as an animal cruelty felony.

Some people are just evil.

I agree with you 100%. People who hunt ';for sport'; have a psychological aspect that is off kilter, in my opinion. I feel that way even if the eat what they kill, if they don't need to do that to put meat on the table. I am from a poor, rural area, and I understand what it means to depend on game to survive. One the other hand, I have a brother in law who has a stay at home wife, two kids in private schools, and a two story, five bedroom house, and he hunts for sport. He loves to tell us about his bow hunting adventures, because he knows it is upsetting. So, he has no compassion for the animals, or empathy for his family. He has even bragged about shooting dogs and cats that stray into his hunting grounds. I hope there is a God, and that God kicks asses hard of hunters like him, who show up at Heaven's Gate.
