A lot of bad answers by people that obviously don't have a clue what they are talking about. Ray, a GP 100 is a Ruger revolver in 357 Mag. Luau, there is no ';best'; handgun for deer hunting it all depends on where %26amp; how you hunt. Check out www.handgunhunt.com for good info.

What is the best handgun for deer hunting and what is the practical range?
I wouldn't use a hand gun for hunting deer but if you must, use a 44 mag. Otherwise a 30-30 or 30 06 rifles are best. At least 100 yards because it's hard to get close to a deer in the wild.
Thompson-Center Contender...interchangeable barrels, scope mountable single shot. Mucho variety of calibers. If you're good, you could nail 'em out to 75 yards, maybe more.
really a handgun is not the most practical weapon for hunting.. A 308 rifle or 243 would be your best bet. If you were to use a handgun you would have to be no more than 25-40 yards away for your best shot. They can reach farther but your accuracy will be Way off. A 45 has better stopping power and a 9mm has better speed. But go with a rifle if at all posible
I have a buddy that uses a.357 mag. Not sure of the range though.
Although the S%26amp;W .460 is supposed to have a range of 200 yards and was designed for whitetail
I dropped a Deer with a head shot from 100 yards away with a 308.
45 caliber at about 30 yards. You have to be pretty close.
u rly shouldnt hunt deer with a handgun. why is it necessary to hunt deer with a handgun and not a rifle?
check out Magnum Research, they have nice hunting hanguns...Range i think up to 200 yards...
