What is a good, bolt action rifle that is good for hunting deer in NY for around $500?

You are aware that Deer is shotgun only in the southern tier...... Rifle is for upstate NY.... The Remington 700 and the Savage 11F are nice rifles with a decent price.... Stevens and Mossberg have excellent economy models that are actualy fairly decent... .270 is best for deer, some prefer 30/06 which I think is a little much unless your making long range shots.... I suggest .308. There is a lot of mil surplus and bulk .308 available which makes target practice time fairly inexpensive. The other ammo sizes are expensive. Of course use the good stuff for hunting but use the mil type fmj to get real familiar with your rifle and optics.....What is a good, bolt action rifle that is good for hunting deer in NY for around $500?
500? Depends on if you are going to want to use a shotgun or a rifle. Shotgun you'd be best to look for a 12 gauge with rifle stock probably in mossberg, winchester, remington, or savage and this should be in short range (max 125yds) only. Long range or short range I would prefer 270, 270WSM, 30-06, or a 308. If there a lots of brush and thickets you might be shooting in then 30-06 with blunt tip bullets is your best option.What is a good, bolt action rifle that is good for hunting deer in NY for around $500?
Im not too sure if METROPOL lives in NY or not. If he has he prolly has been under a rock for some time now. HONESTLY I mean no disrespect, but the purpose of this site is to get accurate answers. He does give some great info regarding rifles however. In NY (for the last 3 years) you ARE able to use a rifle in the southern tier! Remington makes a model 710 in .270 and .30-06. Comes with a variable power Bushnell scope. Will run ya probally just over $400. Either caliber is great for our NY deer. Shot the biggest buck of my life with myne!!!!

I would suggest a Remington 700 in 308, one of the best medium priced rifles there is for deer.
