Texas...

A felon is not allowed to posses a firearm

From Texas 2008 Outdoor Annual from the DNR

Possession of firearms by felons: A convicted felon, regardless of where the conviction occurred, may not possess or use a firearm (as defined by Penal Code, 搂46.01) to hunt in this state. Under Penal Code, 搂46.01, a muzzleloading firearm is lawful if it is an antique or curio firearm manufactured before 1899 or a replica of an antique or curio firearm manufactured before 1899 that does not use rimfire or centerfire ammunition.

As for hunting/fishing with a crossbow, yes and no.

Lawful Archery Equipment: Includes longbow, recurved bow, compound bow, and crossbow.

鈥?May be used to take NONGAME fish only.

An upper-limb disability is a permanent loss of the use of fingers, hand, or arm in a manner that renders the person incapable of using lawful archery equipment.

So, as I read this, and I will check with the local game warden next week when I have my monthly lunch with him, In Texas so long as it is not ';Archery only'; deer season then you can use a cross bow to hunt any game or non-game animal with a crossbowCan someone possess a crossbow for hunting purposes legally, with a felony conviction?
you should be able to at the very least possess one because bows of any kind are not considered firearms, as for them being a weapon then a butcher knife in your kitchen would be considered the same thing so don't worry about it. hunting with a crossbow depends on the state your going to hunt in, your better off hunting with a regular compound bow if you are physically able from what i have been told crossbows are not as accurate as the compounds being produced today and a crossbow is more expensive. Go to huntersfriend.com/crossbows to learn more about their performance.
yes...bows are not primitive, and you do not need them resisted. When you buy a rifle or shotgun you must have a background check done, when you buy a muzzle loader or bow you do not need a background check everyone can buy them. They just don't want felons to posses a weapon that can shoot a-lot of shots, or that would be a major threat.
Check your state regulations. In Georgia, hunting with crossbow is illegal unless you have a special permit which is usually only given to individuals with a diability and cannot use a bow or firearm.
you could even own and hunt with a muzzleloader if you want to...you just cant own a real firearm...cross bow...air rifles...and muzzleloaders are all legal for you to hunt with and own
I hope not.

Felons do not deserve weapons.
depends on the state rule, but a crossbow is still considerd a weapon not a firearm . at leat in NYC
depends what the felony was for.
