I want to get a shotgun for next hunting season?

next season i want to use a shotgun instead of a bow, ive only been bow hunting and ive never shot a shotgun before im about 5'2 and 120lbs any suggestions on what kind of gun would be good for me to start with?I want to get a shotgun for next hunting season?
Remington 870 express magnum, it is a 12 guage that has average kick, and will last you a very long time. it is a great gun and you can get it for a great price. i think its somewhere around $300.I want to get a shotgun for next hunting season?
A Mossberg 500 in 12 gauge would be good to start out with. They are common and reasonably priced.Start out with birdshot and move up to buckshot and then on to slugs.
Check out the Mossberg Bantam or Super Bantam shotguns. At 5'2'; a full size stock will be too long and uncomfortable to shoot. It will also make the recoil feel worse. A 20ga. with a shorter stock would fit you better and be more fun to shoot. You can shoot anything from rabbits and squirrels or ducks and geese to turkeys with it. Buy some slugs and you're ready for deer too. A 20ga. is fine for most situations. Just be sure of your effective range and have fun. Be safe and enjoy your new shotgun.
What are you hunting with a bow, that you want to use a shotgun for?

If it's turkeys, you will be okay, if deer you will not...

Go to a reputable gun dealer, where you can try different gun lengths, and such, to see what is comfortable.....
I'd ordinarily recommend a 2 gauge pump shotgun. But considering your physical stature, you might be better served with a 20 gauge.

Whichever you chose, a Mossberg Model 300 will be a good choice. However you will need to have the stock cut to fit you and have a good recoil pad installed.

Doc
Buy a 12 ga Maverick 88, it is a cheaper version of the Mossberg 500. It is made by Mossberg, but you can find one at walmart for $177.
You may want to start with a 20 gauge. It has a fair amount less kick than a 12 gauge, but is still powerful enough for hunting most animals.

I'd recommend reading this to get a better idea of want you want.

mossberg 500 or a Remington 870 it's just a matter of personal preference

just make sure it's a 12ga.
Remington 870 is a great gun to use for all ages
A single or Double barrel, or a over %26amp; under in a 20 gauge Shotgun.*
Go to a gun shop and get what fits you the best. I'd stick with 12 gauge too. There's many different shotguns and each one of them is different in their own way. You just have to find one that fits you well.
Remington 870 express or 870 wingmaster. Go for the 3 1/2 inch magnum.
The Remington 870 would be the best.

The Remingtons use a steel receiver, which adds weight to the shotgun. More weight means less felt recoil.

12 gauge ammo has the widest variety. Everything from the 2.75'; light promo loads (1 oz. or sometimes 7/8 oz. of shot...light recoiling), up to the heavier 3'; magnum turkey loads....if you so desire.

Get a gun with the interchangable RemChokes....SK, IC, M, and F.

Remington 870 Express guns sometimes go on sale for as little as $200 at some big name sporting goods stores. (They only come with 1 choke tube though.) For under $300 you can have a decent quality, relatively low recoiling, classic AMERICAN MADE shotgun that can pretty much do it all.

Ah...and get a slug barrel with rifle sights for deer and bear hunting purposes.
Well it depends on what you plan to hunt with it. I'm a tiny girl myself, only 5'1 and barely 100lbs. I started hunting when I was younger with a Mossberg 20 ga and it was extremely comfortable and fit me perfect. It's pretty versatile too, I used it for hunting deer, geese, rabbits, squirrels..
I would go with a 410 single action H%26amp;R is a good brand

you can use it as a rifle with slugs for deer or shot for squirles or turkey

i use mine for all good all around gun

very little kick light weight
I'm surprised nobody has suggested a semi auto shotgun yet. they absorb some of the recoil. Stoeger's are cheaper Benelli's. a well proven reliable design.
well if your using it for turkey then try 870 express cant go wrong with it great gun for a great price. if you want it for deer get a mossberg i cant be specific about what its called but its a slug gun with a scope and comes with a second barrel for turkey shots and its only like $250. i shot 2 deer with the same gun this year
