No offense, but your question makes it pretty obvious you are not a hunter. Are you aware of how many types of hunting is out there? Are you wanting to shoot deer, crows, waterfowl, turkeys? You have to go through the California game and fish commission and achieve a hunter education card and then a hunting license for the specific animal you wish to hunt. ';Rent'; a gun? Don't think so.
go to your local sporting goods store or gun store and get information on hunter safety course. they should be able to help you out. they will also sell you your hunting license and guns when the time comes. i suggest starting with a pellet gun to practice. once you get your license, you can hunt in the los padres or angeles national forest, or blm lands in the high desert. hope this helps
